Former healthcare executive shares best-practices for turning great doctors into great leaders.
Chelan, WA – May 25, 2018 FMG Leading’s Healthcare Principal Jennifer Perry recently delivered a keynote at the Washington State Medical Association’s 2018 Leadership Development Conference in Chelan, Washington. Jennifer was joined during her talk by Dr. David Weidig, Chief Medical Officer from Sound Physicians, a FMG Leading client. The keynote was inspired by the learnings shared in FMG Leading’s recent whitepaper “Turning Great Doctors Into Great Leaders”, co-authored by Jennifer, FMG Leading Chairman Dr. Foster Mobley, and CEO Dr. Matt Brubaker. The whitepaper was also the inspiration for the recent Harvard Business Review article that Jennifer co-authored, titled “Most Doctors Have Little or No Management Training, and That’s a Problem”, published in December 2017.

Jennifer’s keynote, titled “Why Physician Leaders Often Fail, and Ways to Ensure Success” focused on the strategies required to build a development pipeline to support doctors as they grow into expanded leadership roles. The talk also highlighted the varying skills required at each of the 5 levels of physician leadership, as well as ways to address the most common strengths and leadership gaps doctors display. Throughout the keynote, Jennifer shared learnings and best-practices from FMG Leading’s 3 decades of experience working with thousands of leaders at a wide range of healthcare organizations. Dr. David Weidig, CMO at Sound Physicians, also shared his experience with physician leadership development, describing Sound Physicians’ programs that help their doctors become great leaders.
